Gerald Williams

Gerard Williams (born 1941) is a visual artist known for his prominence and influence in the Black Power Movement, the artistic movement that resulted from the Black Power Movement in the 1960s and 1970s that continues to live on today. A founding member of AfriCOBRA, Williams’ oeuvre varies, from paintings, collages, drawings, and constructions. His artwork conveys visual harmonies influenced by contemporary urban symbology, indigenous traditions, personal narrative, and global perspective resulting in multifaceted and layered significance of expression, control, and freedom.
