Barber Shop

Once again displaying his inspiration of the everyday life of black Americans, Lawrence renders a group of men in a barber shop. The piece is rich and alive with bright color and pattern, created by the juxtaposition of geometric forms. Although the men in this piece appear quiet and contemplative, barbershops and hair salons serve as important beacons of social interaction in urban African-American communities, something Lawrence captures in his gathering of men here.
