The Migration Series, Panel no. 27: Many men stayed behind until they could take their families north with them.
Once again highlighting the struggle of the journey northward, Lawrence depicts an uncharacteristically empty train station in which a man buys train tickets for his waiting family. Both the title of the panel and the small prison-like ticket window suggest the threat of separation that loomed over many migrating families, as well as the isolating nature of moving to an unfamiliar place.
